Tiger Lily Trail

A visual meditation.

Tiger Lily Trail
Orange Tiger Lily. Original photo by Lloyd Duhon.

A gentle breeze blows cool, carrying the scents of flowers and damp earth.

A light water vapor comes with the wind in spurts, misting you gently.

The roar of a waterfall creates a constant white noise, but it is diminished, distant from you.

Birds are chirping quietly, with the occasional trill rising above the din.

The gravel path crunches softly under foot.

You approach a small outcropping of rock.

Flowers of every variety and color surround you.

There is a patch of green grass that looks dry and inviting.

You sit down and feel the ground give under you, cushioning you as you rest.

Directly in front of you is a cluster of tiger lillies.

The orange blossoms reach outward like a horn.

The petals are lightly misted with dew.

The stamen, heavy with pollen, give off a gentle scent.

The stalks sway lightly.

The wind picks up again and you watch as the delicate yellow powder floats away from the flower.

You relax your eyes and take in the sights, smells, sounds, and feelings.

Check in with your body. How are you feeling? Do you have tensions that you can let go of? Did your mind wander during the meditation? If so, thank the thought and allow it to pass, and pick up where you left off.

Monday on Daily Colors is Orange. Today’s photograph was taken near Niagara Falls, in New York, when Lloyd and Melannie traveled there in 2017.
